What happens when fire becomes a tool for caring for the land? Join Earth’s Classroom for a hands-on look at the science, history, and ecology of prescribed fire.

Learn how fire has been used as a land-management tool for centuries and how carefully planned burns can support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. With guidance from an EC instructor with professional and federal fire training, you’ll learn how a prescribed burn is planned and carried out, get hands-on with fire tools like a drip torch, and, weather permitting, assist with an actual prescribed burn.

Come ready to learn, get outside, and experience the power of fire firsthand!

Things to Know & Required:

• Bring snacks and drinks in a backpack for the field.

• Please bring your own mug for hot drinks.

• Wear natural fibers only (cotton or wool). Synthetic materials can melt when exposed to heat.

• Bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and a bandana or head covering.
